He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie McKay and Minnie Lee McKay; and his siblings, Roy McKay, Billy McKay, Ray McKay, Edward "Tom" McKay, Gerald Leake, JoAnn Chambers, Annie Ree Chambers and Betty Ruth McKay Adams.
He is survived by: his wife Polly; his children, Katosha Dunlap of Cheraw, Brandie Tyson of Pageland, Sante Beckham of Charlotte, Monteise McKay (Yolanda) of Charlotte and La'Charles McKay of Charlotte; and his siblings, James McKay Sr. (Doris) of Charlotte, Carrie Smith (David) of Clarksville and Sheila McKay Burnette of Pageland. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
