He was predeceased by: his parents, Calvin Smith, Sr. and Macie Cathey Smith; his wife Carolyn Gary Smith; his sisters, Alberta Smith, Connie Mae Grier (Excel) of Baltimore, Mildred G. Sloan (Clifford), Annie L. Grier (Samuel) and Essie McLain; his niece Devoralaine Ardrey (Robert); and his sister-in-law Sandra Leeper Smith.
He is survived by: his siblings, Kathleen S. Reid, Charles Smith and George Smith (Jim); his sisters-in-law, Bessie Smith and Margaret Smith; his sons, Jerome B. Cary of Charlotte and Eugene Gary of Phila, PA.; and his grandchildren, Kayanisea of Charlotte, Omar of Charlotte, Markus of Charlotte, Jamaka of Charlotte, Carolyn of Charlotte, Micheal of Charlotte and Synquis of Charlotte. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, friends.
