He was predeceased by: his parents, George Drake Scott and Mary Ann Scott (Keck). He is survived by: his wife Margaret; his former wife Hattie Warner of Chapel Hill, N. C.; his children, David (Mary Hart Scott) of Smyrna, Steve Scott (Ellen Pautler) of Chapel Hill, N. C., John (Melissa Loggins) of Granite Falls, N. C. and Cynny Scott (Rich Beckman) of Tucson, Ariz.; and his grandchildren, Kelly Scott of Atlanta, Nick Scott (Kathryn Scott) of Atlanta, Sean Scott of Durham, N. C., Claire Scott of Austin, Tex, Simmons Scott of Granite Falls, N. C. and Mary Elizabeth Bultemeier of Miami, Fla.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

“I learned recently of the death of Tom Scott, one of the mot important faculty mentors in my career. This occurred while I was an undergraduate at Oberlin College. I moved to Chapel Hill shortly after his passing. A truly wonderful and caring person, Dr. Scott aided my thinking as I pursued a career in the life sciences. What a wonderful person and I am so very lucky that we crossed paths early in his career. My deepest sympathies to his family. Lee C. Drickamer Oberlin College Class of 1967”
