He was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley Malcolm Koonce, Sr. and Louise Turlington Koonce; and his sister-in-law Sheila Thornton Smith. He is survived by: his wife Hope Thornton-Koonce; his brothers, Don Koonce (Dorothy) of Cary, NC and Ken Koonce (Jeanne) of Fayetteville, NC; his nephews, Mike Koonce (Lynn) of Cary, NC and Jeff Koonce (Ann) of Chapel Hill, NC; his great-nephews, Reid Koonce of Raleigh, NC, Jack Koonce of Charlotte, NC and Henry Koonce of Chapel Hill, NC; and his great-niece Molly Koonce of Cary, NC.. He is also survived by many other special friends and family members.
