He was predeceased by: his spouse Geneva "Jill" Smith Godwin; his parent Lorena Fowler Godwin; his daughter Jeannine Godwin Wright; and his siblings, Lonzie Godwin, Walter Godwin, Roy Godwin, Perry Godwin, Guidie McPherson, Nellie Garrell, Lottie Cartrette, Katie McPherson, Maybelle Sellers, Zellie Boswell, Jake Godwin and Ivey McPherson.
He is survived by: his parent Albert Godwin; and his sons, Ronald G. Godwin of Chadbourn, Danny Godwin of Chadbourn and Delane "Sam" Godwin of Chadbourn. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
