He was predeceased by: his wife Virginia Cox; and his siblings, James Cox, Doris Hardee, Ernestine Sellars, Horace Cox and John Hedley Cox.

He is survived by: his daughter Cathleen Brown (Gregory Brown) of Matthews; his close friend Em Nobles of Chadbourn; and also, Judy Wooten, Greta Heye of Whiteville, Stephanie Miller of Whiteville and Dolores Cox of Whiteville. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

“I am sorry to hear of the passing of Bob. I enjoyed the 8 years or so that I worked for him as his Secretary at the VA. First in the office, last one out many days. Knew and cared for his staff. Had a heart of gold. He was the best boss I ever had. My condolences to Cathleen, Gregory and his friends. He will be missed.”
