He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie Jim Hammonds and Mamie Ruth Smith Hammonds; his wife Barbara Ann Strickland Hammonds; his siblings, Velton Hammonds, Alton Hammonds, Wilford Hammonds, Martha Crockrell, Mary Evans and Ruby H. Wiant; and his son Anthony Ray "Tony" Hammond.
He is survived by: his daughter Anissa Hammonds McKoy (Bobby) of Chadbourn; his siblings, Hilda Hammonds Sugg (Hal) of Annapolis, MD, Johnny Hammonds (Monica) of Charleston and Leslie Hammonds, Jr. (Virginia); and his grandchildren, Aja Hammonds, Alex McKoy, Dani McKoy, Julie McKoy, Lyrix McKoy and Anthony McKoy.
