He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Gaither and Mary Ethel Ballard; and his siblings, Raymond, Carl Jr., Bill, Macon, Dottice, Vivian, Miriam, Wilma and Mary Frances.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley; his children, Tim Ballard (Kim) and Jane Isenhour (Jerry); his grandchildren, Emma, Brian, Matthew, Meghan, Andrew, Jenny and Jamie; and his great grandchildren, Hailey, Thomas, Henry, Johanna, Maren of Richard James, Emily, Riley, Carson and Thatcher.

Memorials can be given to Mountain View Baptist Church or Carolina Caring in lieu of flowers.
