He was predeceased by: his daughter Beverly Hedrick; and his sisters, Isabel McGinnis and Bentha Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Wingo Self; his children, William Barry Self and Janice Self; his son-in-law Ed Hedrick (Hedy); his grandchildren, Madison Self, Travis Self (Lauren) and Tanner Self (Julia); his great grandchild Ryder Self; his sister Rachel Smith (Jim) of Raleigh; and his stepdaughter Monica.
