He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Rectenwald and Arlene Rosenstiel; and his wife Maren S. Rectenwald. He is survived by: his siblings, Robert (Susan) of Harmony, PA, Jean Helmer (Robert) of Lake City, PA, Ronald (Fran) of Erie, PA and Ross (Joy) of Erie, PA; his children, Beth (David Byerley) of Cary, NC and Rick (Kara) of Raleigh, NC.; and his granddaughters, Catie, Rachel Byerley, Samantha and Julia Rectenwald of Raleigh. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
