He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Benjamin Harrison Whisnant and Bertha Fortenberry Whisnant; his wife Cheryl Campbell; his daughters, Heather and Alicia; his sons-in-law, Jeffrey Cross and Josh Wyatt; his grandchildren, Teddy, Zachary, Lexi, Mille, Lydia and Archer; his siblings, Miller (Pat) of Laurel, MD, Melvin (Scottie) of Hudson, NC and Wanda Horne (Greg) of Shelby, NC.; and his friends, Don, Ginny Kendall of Charlotte and Doug Jesse. He was also cherished by nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ralph's memory to one of his favorite projects, the children's program fund at the JC Raulston Arboretum.
