He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Gatlin and Ethel Gatlin of Craven County; his daughter Lisa Diane Gatlin; his wife Jo Ann Casey Gatlin; and his brothers, Matthew, Otis, Leonard, Steve, Curtis, Allen and Mack.

He is survived by: his siblings, Margaret Gatlin Abernathy, Lillie Mae Hearren and Ray Gatlin (Pat); and his niece Rhonda Whealton (Tim). He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.
