He was predeceased by: his wife Millicent E. Francis. He is survived by: his children, Dr. Howard W. Francis and Lisa A. Battle; his grandchildren, Natalie Francis, Benjamin Francis, Anthony Battle and Camille Battle; and his children-in-law, Sarah Francis and Michael Battle. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made in Howard's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
