He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Franklin Atwater and Betty Atwater (Cook). He is survived by: his wife Martha; his children, Debra and Brett (Amber); his grandchildren, Adrian, Harrison and Bennett Atwater; and his sisters, Kathleen Keesing (Joost) and Barbara Fell (Richard). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
