He was predeceased by: his son Rodney Benfield; his parents, Charles William Benfield and Leatha Small Benfield; and his brother Carl Tyndall. He is survived by: his daughter Deana Bass (Jeffrey) of Wilson; his grandsons, Justin, Jeremy and Joshua Bass; his stepmother Inge Benfield of New Bern; his sisters, Martha Ann Secor (Gene) of Newnan, GA, Carol Ann Jarmon (John) of New Bern, Bonnie Ramsey (Ricky) of Garner, Connie Lorraine (Jim) of Jetersville, VA, Denise Kirkland (Jim) of Raleigh and Christina Pearson (Kurt) of Mebane; his sister-in-law Barbara Tyndall; and his brother Dr. Ron Benfield (Pam) of Statesville.
