He was predeceased by: his parents, Myrton Thomas Stewart and Doris Mills Stewart; his siblings, Robert Cole Stewart and Jane Stewart; and his wife Marcella Drake Stewart.
He is survived by: his children, Laura Stewart Cockman (Darrel) of Whispering Pines, NC, Michael T. Stewart (Natalie) of Holly Springs, NC, John D. Stewart (Katie Dooley) of Minneapolis, MN., Stephen M. Stewart, Richard F. Stewart (Karen) of Mason and James E. Stewart of Gastonia, NC; and his close friend Inez Elizabeth Williams of Carthage. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church Building Fund at Carthage First Presbyterian Church.
