Joyce Irene (Nealley) Berlan Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joyce Irene Berlan of Carolina Shores, North Carolina, who passed away on June 27, 2022, with her daughters Kim and Jacquelyn, and her niece Cheryl by her side.
She was born January 11, 1941, in Malden MA., the daughter of Fredrick and Rita (Grant) Nealley, one of eight children. Joyce was raised and educated in Malden. At age 18 she married Oscar Berlan Jr November 7, 1959 and started their family together. She worked many years for Jewish Family Services and Mystic Valley Elder Services. They shared 53 years together until Oscars passing in 2013. She was an avid card player, and enjoyed Cribbage and Canasta, she also loved crocheting and needlepoint, traveling, as well as hosting Holiday Parties to bring the family together.
She is survived by six children, Kim St. George, Jacquelyn Marcotte, John Berlan, Michael Berlan, Debbie Cataldo, and Denise Bowen, and son-in-law Kevin Ballou, 14 Grandchildren, and 19 Great Grandchildren, five siblings, Ann A. Brett, Eileen M. Poirier, Paul J. Poirier, Patricia A. Sheehan, Elizabeth A. Heller, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
In addition to her parents, and stepfather Yvon Poirier, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Berlan Jr., her daughter Laurie (Berlan) Ballou, siblings Robert J. Poirier and Gail W. Parent.
An interment service will be held at NH State Veterans Cemetery, DW Highway, Boscawen, NH. September 30, 2022, at 3:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at Derry Memorial VFW Post #1617, 18 Railroad Ave, Derry, NH 03038 5:00 pm-9:00 pm.
