He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Durward Ashford, Sr. and Virginia Mitchell Ashford; his son Michael Rhodes Ashford; his wife Ann; his children, John Nicholson Ashford (Laura Ashford) and Sarah Ashford Guill (Rodney Guill); his grandchildren, Hadley Evelyn Ashford and Clay Briggs Ashford; and his brothers, Samuel Briggs Ashford (Janet) and David Lawrence Ashford (Mary).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church or Second Harvest Food Bank.
