He was predeceased by: his parents, Charley K. Mathews and Bertha Lucille Reed Mathews; and his siblings, Felton, Bud, Bill, Max, Quinton, Marvin and Faye Howard.
He is survived by: his wife Anne Bramlett Mathews; his daughters, Judy Earley (Danny) of Canton, NC and Deanna Mathews of Canton, NC; his grandchildren, Lura Earley, Cathy Earley, Colton Mathews (Stephanie), Caleb Mathews (Andrea) and Abigail Mathews; his great grandchildren, Nayomi, Calisha, Trinity and Violet; and his sister-in-law Norma Tyson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
