She was predeceased by: her parents, Claude Batten and Nannie Lamonds Batten; her husband Ellis Burgess; and her siblings, Winnie Davis, Grace Hogan, Thelma Epps, Carlie Batten, Wade Batten, Lacy Batten and Bud Batten.
She is survived by: her daughter Gail Gillis of Troy; her grandchildren, James D. Gillis, III of High Falls, David Gillis (Anissa) of Mt. Gilead, Patricia Gillis of Troy and Elizabeth Cloninger (Craig) of Troy; her great grandchildren, Clay Gillis, Noah Gillis, Abigail Cloninger and Olivia Cloninger; and her sister Janie Parnell of Troy.
