He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Frank Laird, Jr. and Edna Hill Daniel; his stepparents, Ruby Laird and William Daniel; his son Kelley M. Laird; his grandson Kelley M. Laird, Jr.; and his sister Linda L. Barnette.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Penland Laird; his children, Aundrea L. Carroll and Deric Laird; his grandchildren, Gordon Laird, Hunter Laird, Evan Laird and Ashley Lambert; his great grandchildren, Harper Laird and Madilynn Laird; his brother Gary Laird; and his brothers-in-law, Greg Penland and Jimmy Barnette. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that any memorials to honor Mr. Laird be made to the Valor Hospice Program, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, North Carolina 28805; or to the Pole Creek Baptist Church Children's Ministry, 96 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, North Carolina, 28715.
