He was loved and cherished by many people including: his father Harold Dean Bates Sr.; his brother Steve Bates; his granddaughter Pressley Maynor; his wife Yuliya Bates; his daughter Melissa Bates Maynor (Davin) of Easley, SC; his adoptive son Thomas Bates of Wisconsin; his stepson Pavel Voyakov of Candler; his mother Maxine Garrett of Asheville; his siblings, Deana Kinney of Asheville, Dianne Hollifield (Roeby) of Swannanoa, Philip Bates of Asheville, James Bates (Angie) of Asheville, Michael Bates (Sally) of Texas, Shane Bates (Cheryl) of Spartanburg, SC and Keith Bates of Mills River; and his grandchildren, Zoey Maynor, Karstyn Melton, Bowen Melton and Maddox Melton.

He has helped me with automobiles that wouldn't start during my work shift and he has provided me with information that lead me to trustworthy mechanics and recent automotive purchases.
