It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of William Smith Grothe Jr. of Calabash, North Carolina, born in York, Pennsylvania, who passed away on August 10, 2021, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, William Smith Grothe and Margaret Evelyn Railing Grothe; his wife Ruth Ann Pilkerton Campbell; his children, Allicia Nichole Rose (Michael) and Willliam S. Grothe, III (Pamela); his stepsons, Joseph Lawrence Campbell (Sue) and Timothy Craig Campbell (Albanie); his grandchildren, Katie Rose, Victoria Rose, Savannah Campbell Greene (Michael), Emmie Wynn Campbell, Reid Campbell, Skyler Smith, Alyssa Campbell, Tori Lynn Campbell, Grayson Grothe and Luca Grothe; and his sister Ruth Evelyn Linker.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Christ Church, Wayside, Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 177, Newburg, MD 20664 or St. James The Fisherman Episcopal Church, Buildings and Grounds Fund, P. O. Box 68, Shallotte, NC 28459.

“Condolences to the family of Mr. Grothe. I have been tracking alumni of a high school in northern California. There was a William Grothe that attended Norte Del Rio High School in Sacramento CA in 1962 and he moved with his mother and father (who was in the military) to Tampa, Florida., and wonder if that was the same person.
