It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sammie Elton Leonard of Calabash, North Carolina, born in Shallotte, North Carolina, who passed away on August 2, 2023, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Leonard and Pauline Grissett Leonard; and his siblings, Joyce Skeen, Dorit Teeters, Elroy Leonard and Etheridge Leonard.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Simmons Leonard of Calabash; his sister Shelby Rourk of Shallotte; his children, Terri L. Carter of Calabash, Michael Leonard (Brenda) of Calabash and Linda Borrelli (Richard) of Calabash; and his adoptive sons, Gary Gainey (Kitty) of Tarpon Springs, FL and Phil Norris (Sandy) of Ash. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
