He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Madge Collins and William Hubert Holmes. He is survived by: his wife Laurel Smithson Holmes; his children, Melissa Holmes LaPlant (Bryan) of Cape Girardeau, MO, Kathryn Lynn Holmes (Thomas Aydlette) of Edenton, NC and James J. Holmes (Marsha) of Buxton, NC; and his granddaughter Allison Hope Holmes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
