He was predeceased by: his parents, Raleigh Ponder and Atlas Hensley Ponder; his brother Claybourn Ponder; and his siblings-in-law, Tommy Canipe, J. C. Foxx, Charlie Hensley, Jirline Shepherd and Billie Jean Hensley Foxx.
He is survived by: his wife Christine Hensley Ponder; his children, Janet Ponder West (Raymond), Ronald "Dale" Ponder (April) and Mike Ponder (Stephanie); his grandchildren, Justin West (Morgan), Marshay West (Brandon), Anthony Ponder (Morgan), Amy Ponder (Austin), Sebreena Ponder (J. R.), Chris Laws, Shane Marlin (Krystin), Walker Hill (Hunter) and Chance Hill; his great grandchildren, Lukka Spirio, Finley Spirio, Lawson West, Scarlett Phillips, Ashton Hill, Eli Hill and Ryleigh Hill; his brother Devoyd Ponder (Sue); his siblings-in-law, Betty Canipe and Victor Shepherd; and his friend Harold Chandler.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Terri Farless, Kim Ogle and others at Compassionate Care WNC in Burnsville who were compassionate and supportive through a very difficult journey and requests memorial donations be made to them at 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
