He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Slagle and June Gouge Slagle; and his brother Danny Slagle. He is survived by: his pet Jake; his wife Brenda Rich Slagle; and his daughter Heather Slagle of Durham.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Mitchell County Animal Shelter at 2492 US 19E, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
