He was predeceased by: his parents, Luther Martin and Sally Burgin Robinson; his wife Norma Jean Thomas Robinson; his grandson Dennis Woody, Jr.; his brothers, Lloyd Robinson (Dorothy), Clarence Robinson (Lois) and Newel Robinson; and his siblings-in-law, Iris Woody (Junior) and Clyde McIntosh.

He is survived by: his children, Charles Robinson (Vicki) of Burnsville and Angela Woody (Dennis) of Spruce Pine; his grandchildren, Laura Laws (Scottie), Charles Robinson, III (Lauren), Amanda Fender (Zach), Donna Woody and Robert Woody (Kara); his great grandchildren, Jessica, Britney, Ashlyn (Blake), Zachary, Hadley, Jaxon, Abigail, Fynlie, Kinslee and Rebecca; his siblings-in-law, Glenna McIntosh, Marquietta Wilson (Danny) and Jimmy Thomas; and his nephew Ervin Robinson (Jane).
