He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Dean McPherson and Frances Homewood McPherson; and his son Stephen Derick McPherson. He is survived by: his wife Paulette Coble McPherson; his son Dean McPherson of Burlington; his granddaughter Amber McPherson of Burlington; and his sister Judy M. Neese.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 10th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service (306 Glenwood Ave, Burlington, NC 27215). A funeral service was held on Friday, April 11th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Bellemont Methodist Church (4039 Markwood Rd, Burlington, NC 27215).
