He was predeceased by: his mother Elizabeth "Betty" W. Shook (Chuck); and his sister Susan Ratliff. He is survived by: his father Haywood G. Simpson, Jr. (Nancy); his son James "Jack" Simpson; his siblings, Elizabeth Morgan (Chris) of Burlington and Hayes Simpson of Raleigh; and his stepsisters, Lorimer Thornton (Tom) of Concord and Christie Janicello (Steve) of Burlington.
