She was predeceased by : her husband Thomas McCarthy; and her parents, George B. Heaton and Anna Lou O. Heaton. She is survived by : her children, Jimmy Sexton of Burlington, NC, Cristie Sexton (Fabiola) of Fort Collins, CO and Julie Smithey (Robert) of Burlington, NC; her stepchildren, Cynthia Stoughton (Ron) of Wisconsin and Daniel Thomas McCarthy (Jim) of Hillsborough, NC.; her grandchildren, Jack Smithey of Goodlettsville, TN and Danielle Smith (Javen) of Janesville, WI; and her great grandchild Josiah Smith.

A reception was held on Thursday, June 27th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Family Home (1720 Memory Ln, Burlington, NC 27217).

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kay's memory to AuthoraCare, Hospice of Burlington, or PACE, Piedmont Healthcare of Burlington.
