He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Gervest Somers and Lecy Bell Wagoner Somers; his former wives, Helen Anderson Somers and Ramona Perry Somers; his daughter Robin Somers Wicker; his grandson William Henry Vines, III; and his siblings, Joseph Somers, Richard Somers, Boyd Somers, Sr., Daniel Somers, Calvin Somers, Betty McIntyre and Virginia Jones.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Reaves Somers; his children, Donna Somers Vines (Henry) and John D. "Don" Somers, Jr. (Tracy); and his sister Gladys Lancaster. He is also survived by four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four stepchildren; seven step grandchildren and fifteen step great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 22nd 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Riverdale Baptist Church (1273 Haw River Hopedale Rd, Burlington, NC 27215).
