Frank Cain Obituary
Frank Cain, age 93, of Graham, North Carolina, passed away on July 26, 2024. He was
born on September 30, 1930, in Mocksville, North Carolina, to A.R. and Ella Cain.
Frank’s life was marked by dedicated service and remarkable achievements. A proud
Army veteran, he served his country with honor before pursuing higher education. He
was a Specialist in the 101st Airborne Division, Screaming Eagles, an elite air assault
infantry of the U.S. Army. He graduated from North Carolina A&T University with a
Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education, with minors in Science and Biology. His
passion for learning led him to further studies at North Carolina State College, and he
was a distinguished graduate of the Davie County Training School.
Frank began his professional career as the Assistant County Negro Agricultural Agent of
Alamance County, where he quickly distinguished himself. His exceptional leadership
and dedication led to successive promotions, ultimately becoming the supervisor at the
Farmers' Home Administration in Alamance County, part of the U.S. Department of
Agriculture. Under his stewardship, the agency flourished, providing vital economic
resources to rural families. Frank's program became a model of success nationwide,
with $2 million in annual loans disbursed without a single default or foreclosure—an
unparalleled achievement that earned accolades even in Washington, D.C.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Frank was a beloved son, brother,
father, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his son Dishon Cain, sisters Coleen Darden,
Fleeta Hudson, and Jewel Cain, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended
family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.R. and Ella Cain, and
siblings Wesley, Douglas, Vance, Lawrence, Ruth, and Louella.
Frank will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, his dedication to his family and
community, and his commitment to improving the lives of others. His legacy as a
pioneer in agricultural development and economic empowerment will continue to inspire
generations to come.
A viewing will be held Saturday at 11am at Blackwell Funeral Home at 1292 Rauhut
Street in Burlington, NC.
His homegoing celebration will be held at 2pm at Chinquapin Baptist Church located at
4462 NC-801 N, Mocksville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Endowed Scholarship
Fund at North Carolina A&T in Frank's memory.
Frank Cain's life was a testament to hard work, perseverance, and the power of a
compassionate heart. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing
him.
