He was predeceased by: his parents, Clinton Weldon Capps and Lucy Shearin Capps; his son Jeff Capps; and his grandson Chad Wilson. He is survived by: his wife Linda Pegram Capps; his children, Kathy Wilkerson (Steve) and Michael Capps (Kelly); his grandchildren, Billy, Lee, Jennifer, Ray, Prissy, Lindsey, Leighann, Ashley, Mandi, Erika (Brian) and Clinton; and his brother Douglas Capps (Faye). He is also survived by nineteen great-grandchildren.
