He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Wilson Burns and Pearl Turner; his wife Martha Rose Preslar of Peachland, NC; his grandson Timothy Turner; his great grandchildren, Liam and Michael Guiton; and his sons, Gerald R. (Emerita), Ronald J. (Sherry), Michael G. (Pamela) and Stephen M. (Mechell). He was also cherished by 14 grandchildren, 30 plus great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
