He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald "Doc" and Margie Gibby; his wife Blanche Thomas; and his father-in-law Ashley S Thomas. He is survived by: his siblings, Vaughn (Joanna) of Lexington, N. C., Ray (Mildred) of Bryson City and Nell Stines of Bryson City; his children, Ivan Gibby of Bryson City, Alan Gibby (Lisa) of Huntsville, Ala., Owen Gibby (Tammy) of Cullowhee, N. C., Beverly Alt (Peter) of Summerfield, N. C. and James Gibby (Sandra) of Sylva, N. C.; his grandchildren, Sarah Richard (Jonathan) and Samuel Gibby of Huntsville, ALA.; his great grandchildren, Luke, Jacob and Hannah Richard of Huntsville; and his stepgrandchildren, Melissa Frazier and Timothy Burch of Franklin, N. C..
