He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank C. Upchurch and Alberta Collins Upchurch; his daughters, Donna U. Patterson and Melanie U. McLeod; his grandson Charles Marcus Patterson; and his siblings, Edward, Cecil, Franklin, Harold, Bryant, Ada, Jeanette, Mary Eunice and Joann.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Maxine Patterson Upchurch; his daughters, Karen Thomas (Randy) of Lillington, Charlene Harrington (Randy) of Broadway, Paula Arnold of Southport and Jennifer Blalock (Larry Joe) of Broadway; and his brothers, Durward, Bennie and Ray Upchurch. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren.
