He is survived by: his sister Nettie Bell Gardner Sloan (Lucille Autry Sloan); his children, Herby (Betty) of Hoffman, NC., Jackie Patterson Smith of Kinston, NC. and Patsy Patterson Erwin (John) of Kinston, NC.; his sister Evaline Sloan Thomas of Sanford, NC.; his significant other Louise Chabot; and his friend Willie Buie.
