He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Q. Thorne and Delia Weir "Penny" Thorne; his wife Mavis McNeill Thorne; and his grandson Michael Trey Thorne. He is survived by: his children, Penny Thorne Howard (Buddy) of Broadway, NC. and Michael Scott Thorne (Wanda) of Sanford, NC.; his sister Clarice Smith of St. Louis, Missouri.; and his grandchildren, Shelley Ward, Isaac Ward, Taylor Thorne, Baylee Thorne, Lauren Howard and Meredith Howard.
