He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Eli, Sr. and Dora R. Burrell Alewine; his wife Ruby McCurry Alewine; and his sisters, Betty, Polly, Mary and Gertrude.
He is survived by: his children, Scott Alewine (Cindy) of Orangeburg, SC, Kim McCool (Pat) of Columbus, NC and Todd Alewine (Sheila) of Hendersonville, NC; his sister Joyce Hyder; and his grandchildren, Lindsey Limerick (Jordan) of Raleigh, NC, Meredith Durham (Joshua) of Columbus, NC, Morgan Hobart (Austin) of Statesville, NC, Lauren Dickson (Zach) of Amsterdam, Seth McCool (Danielle) of Spruce Pine, NC and Jessica Mackey (Austin) of Jacksonville, Florida. He is also survived by ten great- grandchildren.
