He was predeceased by: his brother Robert Hammersmith. He is survived by: his wife Sue Hammersmith; his children, Julie Seacrest of Belmont, NC, Sherri Marlow (Jeff) of Harrisburg, NC and Bryan Hammersmith of Pennington Gap, VA; and his grandchildren, Hailye Blanton, Ansley Blanton and Nicholas Marlow.
