He was predeceased by: his parent Albert Salter; his wife Mary "Sissy" Salter; and his siblings, Edwin Salter, Jerry Salter and Betty Clark.

He is survived by: his parent Callie Tapley Salter; his grandfather Blue Grass; his sons, Charles Albert Salter of Brevard, Russell Salter (Tracy) of Sylva, NC and Paul Lewis Salter (Sarah Jo) of Krum, Texas; his siblings, Jackie Salter of Brevard, Penny Smith of Brevard and Violet Sorenson of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Ruth Elizabeth Salter, Michael James Salter, Augustus Lane Salter and Lucas Cord Salter; and his nieces, Ashley Clark and Lori Shipman.
