He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Howard and Omie Carson Smith; his children, Kenny Howard and Vicki Howard; and his siblings, Levi Howard, Ernest Smith and Gladys Trantham.
He is survived by: his stepmother Jessie Howard of Bryson City; his son Gary Howard of Brevard; and his siblings, Charles Howard (Sandy) of Mount Holly, Ed Smith (Lois) of Asheville, Jack Smith of Asheville, Eugene, Dennis Howard of Bryson City, Marcia Hollifield of Robbinsville, Linda Lowe, Judy Blevins of Bryson City and Linda Smith of Asheville. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
