He was predeceased by: his parents, John Columbus and Freida Swaim Hayes; his former wife Phyllis Gail Suddreth; his sons, James Wayne Hayes II of Boonville, NC and Brandon Hayes (Monika); his grandchildren, Alexandra and Andrew of Dallas, TX; and his siblings, Lillian Thomas, Gerry Ingram, Doris Wilmore, Louise Long, Lois Shore, Dwight Hayes and Hubert Hayes.
He is survived by: his wife Kay Stinson Hayes of Boonville, NC.; his stepsons, Edwin Stinson, Jeff Stinson and Joel Stinson; and his brother Alton Hayes. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, November 17th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Richmond Hill Baptist Church (2205 Richmond Hill Church Rd, Boonville, NC 27018). A funeral service was held on Sunday, November 17th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
The family requests donations be made to Richmond Hill Baptist Church.
