He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Isaac and Sophronia Horton Carlton; and his siblings, Lorraine Grimes, Mary Essie Carlton, Howard Lee and Cornelius Carlton.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Carlton; his children, Edward Lamont Carlton (Lore) and Melonie Carlton of Raleigh; his grandson Maison Carlton of Raleigh; and his siblings, Dorothy Saner of Hamptonville, Lula Carlton (Ben) of Boomer, Ernestine Surratt (Morris) of Boomer, Ralph Carlton of Boomer and Robert Carlton (Diane) of Wilkesboro.
