He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Jay Smith and Julia Holt Smith; his sisters, Hazel S. Byrd, Margaret S. Davis and Sadie S. Rouse; and his former spouse Gurtha Squires Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Julie S. Patrick (Barry) of Bolton, Tony Edward Smith (Joan) of Riegelwood and Karen S. Pipkin of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Magen, Jesse and Morgan; and his great grandchildren, Isabella, Joshua and Jae. He is also survived by brother-in-law.
