He was predeceased by: his father Forest Joe Helms. He is survived by: his wife Linda Toole Helms; his children, Michael David Helms and Michele Helms Beckner; his children-in-law, Silvana Reino Helms and Tom Beckner; his granddaughters, Isabella Rebekah Helms, Gabriella Nicole Helms, Amanda Lynne and Emma Beth Beckner; his mother Freda Violet Helms; his siblings, Duane Helms (Emily), Joyce Sutton (Diteous), Richard Helms (Chris) and Karen Horsley; and his nieces and nephews, Marvin, Stephanie, Alicia, Natalie, Julie, Deanna and Richard. He is also survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Dennis Helms to the SECU Family House in Winston Salem, NC.
