He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Ira Parker Newton and Eleanor Johnson Newton; his daughters, Susan (Brian Becker) of Blowing Rock, NC and Ann (John Pegram) of Kennesaw, GA; his grandfather G. G.; his son-in-law David Melvin Blair; his grandson Samuel Lane Blair; his wife Miriam; his daughter Nancy Blair of Hubert, NC; his grandchildren, Lane, Noah, Sydney, Katie, William, Parker, Thomas and Sophie; his great grandchildren, Gus and Valentina; his brother Tom Newton (Patti) of Lodi, CA; his nieces, Kimberly and Helen; his nephew Andrew; his cousins, Emily and Glen Taylor; and his sisters-in-law, Virginia Gerrett and Christine Reeves. He was also cherished by cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock, NC or to Medi Home Health & Hospice in Boone, NC.
