He was predeceased by: his parents, Ferris Hester and Vivian Singletary Hester; and his sister Linda Hester White. He is survived by: his wife Frances Kinlaw Hester; his sister Jan Hester Maynor of Lumberton; his nieces, Lynn Smith Settlemeyer of Leland and Jessica White Schmale (DJ) of Elizabethtown; his great-nephews, Andrew Settlemeyer and Colton Schmale; and his great-niece Julia Flowers.
