He was predeceased by: his parents, Lonnie Gaston Pope and Mary Ada Pait Pope; his son James Andrew Pope; his siblings, Zella Pope Guyton, Gertrude Pope Guyton, Velma Pope Phillips, William S. Pope and Lonnie Clayburn Pope; and his stepgrandson Kyle Bullard.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy McKnight Pope; his son Michael Pope (Brenda); his grandchildren, Zachary (Meaghan), McKnight and Porter Pope; his great grandchild Henley Catherine Pope; and his sister Patricia Ann Pope Blackmon (Ken) of Bladenboro, NC..
